KNOWING models support evidence-based decisions on mobility, buildings and urban greening toward a climate-neutral 2050

Scientific models don’t tell us what to do. They help us understand what our choices mean.

The Estonian capital Tallinn faces challenges shared by many European cities: rising urban heat, pressure on public space, and the commitment to climate neutrality. Through integrated climate modelling, they are becoming concrete.

From hard” mobility measures such as road and parking fees, to thermal renovation of buildings and nature-based solutions like de-paving and urban greening: The models developed in KNOWING and presented at the Tallinn Pathway Workshop helped strengthen the scientific foundation for the city’s goal of climate neutrality by 2050.

Scientific models don’t replace politics. They don’t decide what should be done, but they make visible what different choices mean. By clarifying consequences, risks and co-benefits, they enable political debate to move from abstract targets to informed, transparent and accountable decisions.

Thank you to everyone involved in Tallinn for shaping this shared climate pathway!

About KNOWING

KNOWING is a Horizon Europe project that develops tools, models and participatory formats to support climate-transformation. By combining scientific analysis with local knowledge and stakeholder input, the project supports regions and sectors to understand climate risks, assess options, and design effective, inclusive pathways for change.
