KNOWING

The European Commission has published a new factsheet presenting 18 outstanding Horizon Europe projects on climate adaptation. KNOWING is one of them.

Titled Climate-Resilient Europe: Advancing Climate Adaptation through EU-Funded Research”, the factsheet presents research efforts that span climate risk modelling, nature-based solutions, behavioural change, and governance innovation. These projects contribute to the EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change and the European Green Deal, supporting the broader goal of achieving climate resilience by 2030.

KNOWING stands out for its focus on the complex interactions between adaptation and mitigation. We offer hands-on tools to support evidence-based planning at the local level: from tailored climate assessments and regional simulations and decision support systems to an interactive web app to integrate the local community into decision-making processes or modular workshops for stakeholder engagement. Our tools are being co-developed and tested in four diverse demonstrator regions: Tallinn (Estonia), South Westphalia (Germany), Granollers (Spain), and Naples (Italy).fforts.

Working together with our sister projects

KNOWING collaborates closely with two sister projects – NEVERMORE and DISTENDER – to jointly enhance dissemination and knowledge exchange across the Horizon Europe adaptation portfolio.

  • NEVERMORE develops integrated assessment frameworks to support decision-making at multiple levels, focusing on climate impacts and policy trade-offs.
  • DISTENDER co-creates combined adaptation and mitigation strategies using participatory methods and decision-support tools across key sectors such as agriculture, biodiversity, energy and water.

Together, our projects explore synergies, interactions and trade-offs between climate actions and provide European regions with the science and tools they need to act.

In spring 2025, the three projects launched a joint dissemination initiative to showcase their approaches at key events and platforms, reinforcing the message that collaboration is key to systemic resilience.

Together for change The factsheet reminds us once again: so many people are taking action. So many are working towards a livable future for all. It makes us proud to share this common goal with a growing community of researchers, cities, institutions, and citizens who are committed to shaping a climate-resilient Europe. KNOWING is one of them.
And so are you. 🌍

About KNOWING

KNOWING is a Horizon Europe project that develops tools, models and participatory formats to support climate-transformation. By combining scientific analysis with local knowledge and stakeholder input, the project supports regions and sectors to understand climate risks, assess options, and design effective, inclusive pathways for change.
