Climate transformation must come from within the municipalities.

One thing is clear with climate change: extreme events will increase. Even small towns need a climate strategy. Granollers, the Catalan town of 60,000 in the Congost river basin, has managed to achieve just that.
For four years, the city has collected data on flood scenarios with scientific support from KNOWING and worked together with regional stakeholders to explore options for action. Because data alone is not enough to tackle climate extremes! It must work within the framework of local realities.
At the recent Pathway Workshop with Ajuntament de Granollers and #AQUATEC, everything came together. The data is in, and stakeholders know how to use it. It will apply to local emergency plans, drainage strategies, and urban planning, making clear that only hybrid solutions combining green and technical infrastructure can be effective in Granollers.
Now, a joint strategy with the entire region can begin. The detailed results of the flood and heatwave models will be formally handed over to the Consorci Besòs Tordera, a public body coordinating flood strategies across the region.

Thanks to everyone involved in this great workshop. It is the result of a long and successful collaboration!
About KNOWING
KNOWING is a Horizon Europe project that develops tools, models and participatory formats to support climate-transformation. By combining scientific analysis with local knowledge and stakeholder input, the project supports regions and sectors to understand climate risks, assess options, and design effective, inclusive pathways for change.
